Woman. My images combine symbols and elements from Nature, The Body,
The Vessel, and History. Historical aspects that have changed and
shaped women into what they are today are of absolute importance in
my work. Some shapes are stones that represent stories that are held
and stored by our bodies, for our bodies’ record our history
in depth. Some shapes are seed pods that are vessels that give life,
protect life and transport life and sometimes end life. Each Woman/Story
is inspired by a particular female archetype. Formal elements of
the
paintings reflect these issues as in the Theory of Beauty. These
women are embodying effeminate issue such as; saint/whore, lover/mother,
healer/defender, grower/gatherer, creator/destroyer and many more.
We are complex creatures combining many dualities.
