Jesterine, 2004
80cm wide x 100cm tall
Charcoal & Oil on Canvas

This painting deals with issues of Beauty. The paint texture is extremly thick. :

A little Jester Woman lived life as a silly and pathetic thing. The Queen always laughed at her and made fun at her lack of Femaleness to the King. The Queen always said how funny that little Woman was. The Jesterine had no self confidence in her Beauty, she couldn't see it. The Queen was an arrogant person and married the king for status. She thought that she stood for all that was Beauty. Next time when the Queen called for her Jesterine , Jesterine appeared. Only this time she appeared pregnant, dancing and singing so graceful and joyful. The Queen was not amused and asked, "why are you so happy?" The Jesterine replied, "Because, I am with child by our King and know I am also beautiful." Soon she realized that she was wrong when she lost the support of the King. Jesterine had to learn to love herself and her child and find beauty and peace, and so she did and the next time she appeared she danced naked wearing only her hat.
