Josephine was a woman who
loved, who
suffered, who was honest, who lived.
Josephine was treated ill by the patriarchal
powers of government and church however
the people of France adored her and
revered her. She encompassed femininity,
sexuality, intelligence, maternity and sorority.
Here I worked from an old
nude photo of
a sexual icon and mixed the idea with that
of Josephine-Beauharnais and pose from
a portrait painted of her reclining on a couch.
